The health and safety of Emory students, faculty and staff abroad is our top priority. Here are resources to help you prepare for your education abroad experience.
In Case of Emergency Abroad
- Seek emergency medical assistance first, if needed. You can find the emergency phone number in the country you are visiting here: https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/911-by-country
- Contact International SOS as soon as possible at 1-800-523-6586 or at +1-215-942-8226. See international contact numbers here. A separate medical card is not needed for proof of coverage, only your ISOS card (available here) and membership number #11BYSG000003.
- Inform your Program Director or Program Assistant about the emergency for summer programs or your program’s local emergency contact for semester programs.
- Contact Emory Police Department: 404-727-6111(24/hr emergency)
- During business hours, contact Emory College Education Abroad at abroad@emory.edu or by phone at 404-727-6069.

Preparing for a Healthy and Safe Education Abroad
Reviewing the items below will help you prepare for a healthy and safe education abroad experience:
- Review health and safety information for your destination country provided by the US Department of State here and the Centers for Disease Control here.
- Obtain vaccines required by your destination country, if any. For details about required immunizations, check here.
- Review information about your insurance coverage while abroad, including ISOS, and register with ISOS.
- Complete all Education Abroad pre-departure tasks and participate in pre-departure orientations offered by Emory College and your study abroad program.
- If you are registered with Accessibility Services at Emory, please share your study abroad plans with your coordinator and your Education Abroad advisor to plan for your needs and support options abroad.
- Confirm that your prescription medications are legal in your destination country. Make sure to take enough medication for the duration of the program in its original bottle, with your doctor’s prescription. Plan to take your medication regularly while abroad.
- Register with the US Department of State STEP program to receive important notifications and alerts while abroad: https://mytravel.state.gov/s/step
