Domestic Visiting Students

Below are the steps to follow in order to apply to attend Emory this summer.

  • Create an account using the button on the right margin.
    • Select Other Undergraduate Student.
    • Set up account using a personal email address.
    • An email confirming account registration will be sent.
  • Complete the online application.
    • Be sure to have a Letter of Good Standing from your home institution saved and ready for upload before you begin the application.
  • Once your application is verified as complete, it will be marked final acceptance.
  • After final review, you will receive an official final acceptance email notification.
  • Additional Pre-Arrival details will be provided through email.

Upon notification of your acceptance to Emory College as a transient non-degree seeking student, you will receive written instructions on how to log in OPUS and enroll in a course(s).

Accepted transient students may also enroll in person on

  • Maymester: May 9
  • Session 1: May 12
  • Session 2: June 26

*Note: To browse courses in Course Atlas for online, on campus or Maymester, be sure to filter by session.

Transient students may request an official transcript to be sent to their home institution. The student's home institution determines if the credits will be accepted and how they will be applied.

Transient students should consult with their home institution prior to enrolling in Emory summer school.

International Visiting Students

2024 Application Deadlines

Things to consider when applying as a non-degree seeking student in Emory College of Arts and Sciences, during Summer Session, and as an International Transient Student:

  • May enroll in online Summer School courses
  • Not eligible for Maymester courses
  • Home institution must submit official transcript of grades translated into English
  • Must be academically qualified to manage the challenges of university level work
  • Demonstrate English language proficiency
  • Must enroll in a full-time course of study: minimum of 6 credit hours, 2 courses, during each 6-week session, if studying on campus.
  • May not enroll in online courses while simultaneously taking an on-campus course during the summer.
  • Enter the U.S. on an F-1 student visa. You may not study on a B-1/B-2 visitor or tourist visa. There are no exceptions.

If you hold an undergraduate degree and wish to enroll in courses, you must apply for Admission in Special Standing in the James T. Laney Graduate School.

Emory Summer School welcomes applications from undergraduate students from around the world. All non-degree seeking applicants are required to submit the following material:

  • Create an account using the button on the right margin.
    • Select Other Undergraduate Student.
    • Set up account using a personal email address.
    • An email confirming account registration will be sent.
  • Gather all required materials before you begin the application.
    • Official Transcript (must be presented in English)
    • TOEFL or IELTS test scores OR ACT/SAT scores, including writing sections
    • English Language Proficiency:
      • Score of 100 on the Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) or an overall band score of 7.5 on the IELTS
      • Submit Writing section score of the SAT or ACT exam, if available
      • Scores are not used as cut-offs
      • Review of English language proficiency is viewed in the context of each application
      • A Zoom Interview may be required
    • Passport information and financial certificates are required ONLY for students applying for on-campus courses
    • Financial Certificate and supporting documentation
  • Complete the online application.
  • Once your application is verified as complete, it will be marked final acceptance.
  • After final review, you will receive an official final acceptance email notification.
  • Additional pre-arrival details will be provided through email.

Once the application is complete, it will be reviewed on a rolling, space-available basis.

Your acceptance and enrollment in Emory Summer School on-campus courses will require an F-1 visa:

  • Appointment with the U.S. consulate in your home country is required
  • Apply for F-1 visa by the application deadlines to ensure your visa is processed and authorized before the Summer School start date.
  • Admission decision will be emailed
  • I-20 will be issued and sent to you once deposit is paid
  • Do not make plans to leave your home country until you have received both the acceptance letter and I-20 document from Emory University.
  • If you are an international student already enrolled at an accredited US college or university for the fall semester, please refer to the information above for domestic visiting students. You do not apply as an International visiting student.
