Frequently Asked Questions

  • If I enrolled in an online course, do I need to attend the class at the meeting time listed in OPUS?

Yes, synchronous (live) class sessions require your attendance on Canvas during Eastern Standard Time (EST).

These synchronous sessions are not available at alternate times and should be viewed in much the same way that one would schedule for on-campus face-to-face course meeting times.

Refer to Emory College Online for more information.

  • Is Emory College Online the same as Remote Learning?

No, Emory College Online is a structured learning model with lectures, discussions, assignments, and exams.

Unlike Remote Learning, Emory College Online requires time commitments per week, including synchronous (real-time) lectures, asynchronous (any time) coursework, and adhere to attendance policies.

  • Do I need to complete and submit a Summer School application?

    • Current Emory College degree-seeking students do not have to complete an application. You may enroll in courses through OPUS.
    • Transient students (non-degree seeking) must complete and submit the online Emory Transient Application, letter of good standing from their home institution, and $75 application fee.
  • How do Oxford students enroll in summer school courses?

    Advisement Required for Enrollment

Oxford College students who plan to enroll in Emory summer school must meet with an Oxford advisor to plan their summer school schedule before they can enroll. Any enrollment must be requested through the Advising Support Center oxadvising@emory.edu.

    Spring Oxford Graduates

All Oxford Spring degree candidates planning to take summer school classes at Emory will need to inform the Advising Support Center for your Summer enrollment access to be granted. If you have not applied for graduation, we will not be able to grant you your access to enroll for Summer classes.

  • I am an undergraduate at another university, but I would like to enroll in a course at Emory this summer. How do I know what courses are offered at Emory this summer?

Transient students are welcome to enroll in on campus and online courses during the summer. Emory offers a three week Maymester term and two six-week sessions. For course offerings and descriptions, refer to the Course Atlas or OPUS.
  • How much does it cost?

Tuition is assessed per credit hour during the summer.

  • Is financial aid available?

Emory and transient students must enroll for at least six (6) hours to be eligible and considered for financial aid in the summer.

Emory students enrolled in a Maymester course will be assessed for financial aid eligibility regardless of whether they are enrolled in additional Summer School courses.

    • Emory students - a separate financial application for summer is NOT necessary. Once you enroll in summer classes on OPUS, your financial aid is reviewed and considered if you receive aid during the year. Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in all the hours they intend to take during the summer, so they can be considered for the maximum aid. Federal work-study or PELL grant is not available during the summer.
    • Transient (non-degree seeking) students - a limited number of transient student scholarships are available to help with tuition costs. You can complete the transient student scholarship information with your online application by May 13, 2022.
  • Is the Emory Payment Plan (EPP) available in the summer?

Yes, the payment plan is available in the summer IF you are enrolled for both six-week summer sessions. Please refer to Student Accounts for more information and eligibility.
  • How many hours may I enroll in?

Maymester: Students may enroll in ONE course offering.

Session 1 and Session 2: Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in no more than two (2) courses in a session (less than 8 credit hours) unless the student receives permission for an overload from their academic advisor.

Please consult an academic advisor or summerprograms@emory.edu if you have questions about the number of courses or credits you would like to enroll during the summer.

  • Where is the Summer School office located?

Office of International and Summer Programs (OISP) 550 Asbury Circle, Candler Library, Suite 200.
  • When is summer enrollment?

Emory students may enroll in a summer school course (on OPUS) beginning February 13, 2024. Classes fill quickly.

    • Session 1: May 15th
    • Session 2: June 29th

  • When is my tuition payment due?

Please refer to the Student Accounts website for deadlines, policy information, and tuition adjustment schedule.
