Resources for Parents & Families

Academic advisors and administrators in the Office for Undergraduate Education are available to discuss many aspects of your student's academic life at Emory.

Common issues we discuss with parents and families include academic planning, course registration, academic difficulties, academic opportunities, career communities, withdrawals/leaves of absence, and health and wellness issues. We can also direct you to other appropriate campus resources.

Important Legal Information

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires that your student must give us consent before we can release specific personal information to you, including grades. Your student can give or revoke consent by completing the Emory College Letter of Consent.

In the absence of this consent, we will only be able to give general information as it relates to Emory educational policies and resources available to all students.

FERPA Consent Form (to be completed by your student)

Guest Access to Student Account

Guest Access is a feature in OPUS (our student record system) that allows your student to grant up to five individuals access to their OPUS student record. The level of access that a guest is granted is directly controlled by your student, and may include their financial aid information, billing, class schedule, and grades. Guest Access may be granted or revoked by your student at any time.

Your student can find information on how to set up guest access on the Office of Information Technology website.

Please note that guest access is independent of the FERPA Letter of Consent Process.

Academic Advising

Your student will be assigned an OUE Academic Advisor. OUE Advisors assist students with course planning, degree progress, and navigating challenges or concerns that may occur, and can provide referrals to appropriate campus partners to aid students in resolving concerns. The OUE advisor assists students throughout their time at Emory College.

When students declare a major in Emory College, they are then, also, assigned a faculty major advisor in their chosen field of study.  Faculty major advisors assist students with course selection and degree planning for their major field requirements.  They can also provide guidance to students regarding career opportunities and application to graduate or professional schools.

Students must declare at least one major by the end of their second year at Emory. They may declare as early as the spring semester of their first year.

Career Communities

The Emory College Pathways Center help students with holistic career exploration and professional development starting in year one. Students are not only connected to potential employers and opportunities but to an expanding ecosystem of alumni, parent, and community mentors who can help them discover meaningful postgraduate lives and opportunities.

Outside of Emory College, the Pre-BBA Program Office works with students who are interested in Business School program.
