Academic advisors and administrators in the Office for Undergraduate Education are available to discuss many aspects of your student's academic life at Emory.
Common issues we discuss with parents and families include academic planning, course registration, academic difficulties, academic opportunities, pre-professional questions, withdrawals/leaves of absence, and health and wellness issues. We can also direct you to other appropriate campus resources.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) requires that your student must give us consent before we can release specific personal information to you, including grades. Your student can give or revoke consent by completing the Emory College Letter of Consent.
In the absence of this consent, we will only be able to give general information as it relates to Emory educational policies and resources available to all students.
Guest Access is a feature in OPUS (our student record system) that allows your student to grant up to five individuals access to their OPUS student record. The level of access that a guest is granted is directly controlled by your student, and may include their financial aid information, billing, class schedule, and grades. Guest Access may be granted or revoked by your student at any time.
Your student can find information on how to set up guest access on the Office of Information Technology website.
Please note that guest access is independent of the FERPA Letter of Consent Process.
Your student will be assigned a Pre-Major Faculty Advisor at the start of their first semester. When your student declares a major, an advisor in their field(s) of study will be assigned. The Pre-Major and Major Faculty Advisor are known as the ‘advisor of record’ for your student. In addition, we encourage every student to develop their own informal network of advisors, which will include faculty, staff, and peers, based on academic interest. We encourage students to meet with their advisor of record at least once every semester.
The Office for Undergraduate Education also has a team of academic advisors to support your students with academic planning, academic support or other issues that may affect their academic life. OUE academic advisors are assigned alphabetically.
Pre-Health Advising works with students who are interested in a health-related career. For students interested in pre-business or pre-law advising, the pre-BBA Program Office and Career Center, respectively, are available resources for students.
In addition to pre-Law advising, the Career Center works with all students regardless of intended career destination.
We want our students to take ownership of their academic experience while at Emory. We know that parents and families offer great support in this process as well.
Ask your student to give you updates on their academic progress.
Encourage your student to seek out academic resources and support.
Stay up-to-date on academic deadlines and important dates on the Emory College Academic Calendar, and encourage your student to bookmark the page. Emory College sends a regular email, “The College Weekly,” that highlights important dates, deadlines, policies and opportunities.
Encourage your student to get involved on campus. Creating connections with the Emory community will be vital in your student’s success at Emory College.

The staff at CAPS know that student life is a transitional period and can bring pressure and stress. They try to help students understand this period, find ways of coping with crises, and grow from their experiences.
